Lake Bolera and surrounding area

Distance: 15-20 minutes from Castril

Directions: From Castril take the A326 towards Pozo Alcon for about 15 minutes as you head into the Sierra de Cazorla.

On the right hand side there is a sign for Recreation Activities. There is a restaurant here for you to enjoy and watersports are also available here (June to September).

For swimming, park up in the car park and walk down through the trees.

You will see a long slope. At the bottom of here you can jump off and swim out onto the lake. The children have great fun!

Take the A326 from Castril towards Pozo Alcon. Just after a green road sign saying A326 / KM9, you will see a yellow recreation sign. You will return here for your meal. Continue along across a rickety bridge, and then turn right where it is sign posted El Hornico. Rather bumpy road but driveable by car. When you come to a fork take the signs for Colección Botánica. Park up at the Botanical Gardens and enjoy one of several walks, which are marked by signs. We took a walk which starts to the left of the large white building. It quickly ascends high up in the mountains and you will gain stunning views of Lake Bolera and beyond. Do remember to take plenty of water with you.

After you have finished your walk, return to the Lake Bolera Recreation Area and enjoy a meal in the fabulous restaurant. The staff are extremely friendly and if you go during daylight you will have a lovely view of the reservoir. The restaurant offers fantastic good value food with various choices.

Menu includes Loin of Pork, Steaks, Fish, Soups, etc. Prices start from 6 euros per person. They also have tostadas and bocadillos etc. for a snack.
Menu is in both Spanish and English and for those of you too shy to practice your Spanish, they do speak some English here.
